Hermance Housing

This housing complex, located on an inclined lot near the Lake of Geneva can be seen as a neighborhood in its own right. The existence of small and large-scale volumes required the use of geometric, medium-scale units and a single façade treatment to provide visual continuity. Brick cladding was chosen as the sole material for both the houses and apartment buildings. The brick cladding surface is interrupted by large exposed concrete balconies that extend the bare interior spaces and face the lake. Each single story, terraced house opens unto its own garden. The exterior public areas create a new sloping landscape that faces the lake and the Jura mountain chain.
